Chain of Responsibility
The principle under the Heavy Vehicle National Law that every party who influences a heavy vehicle journey shares responsibility for preventing breaches of mass, dimension, load restraint, speed and fatigue requirements.
Consignment note
The document that travels with freight and records the consignor, consignee, description, quantity and any exceptions noted at pickup or delivery.
Cross-dock
Moving inbound freight directly from the receiving dock to an outbound vehicle without putting it away in storage.
Placard load
A quantity of dangerous goods on a vehicle that is large enough to require placards on the vehicle and emergency information in the cab.
Proof of delivery
The signature, photograph or electronic confirmation that shows a consignment was delivered to the consignee, when and in what condition.
Put-away
The task of moving received stock from the receiving lane to its allocated storage bay and confirming the location in the stock register.
Reach stacker
A heavy mobile machine with a telescopic boom and spreader used to lift and stack shipping containers at a terminal.
Safety stock
The minimum quantity of a product a customer wants held in the warehouse to cover demand while replenishment stock is on its way.
Verification of competency
A workplace assessment that confirms a licensed operator can operate a specific machine safely to the site's procedures.
Work diary
The written or electronic record a heavy vehicle driver must keep of work and rest times to show compliance with fatigue rules.
