Dangerous Goods Register

Purpose. This register records the dangerous goods the business is permitted to store at Dandenong South, the maximum quantities by class, the storage locations, segregation rules and the safety data sheets held for each product.

1.How the register is used

The register is the single source of truth for what dangerous goods are on site and where. Receiving staff must check every inbound dangerous goods delivery against the register before accepting it. The register is reviewed weekly during the store inspection and after every receival or despatch of dangerous goods.

2.Permitted classes and maximum quantities

The site holds packaged dangerous goods of class 3, class 8 and class 9 only. The maximum quantity of each class on site at any time is set out below and must not be exceeded. Quantities close to the limit must be reported to the Safety, Compliance and Training Manager so that inbound deliveries can be rescheduled.

• Class 3 flammable liquids: maximum 2,000 litres in the bunded flammable store
• Class 8 corrosives: maximum 1,500 litres or kilograms in bay DG-02
• Class 9 miscellaneous: maximum 5,000 kilograms in bays DG-03 and DG-04
• Aerosols (class 2.1) accepted only in the aerosol cage, maximum 400 kilograms

3.Storage locations and segregation

Class 3 and class 8 must be separated by at least three metres or by a fire rated barrier. Class 9 lithium battery products must be stored in bay DG-04 away from the flammable store. Food and pharmaceutical stock must never be stored in the dangerous goods store.

4.Products currently held

For each product the register records the customer, proper shipping name, UN number, class, packing group, package type, quantity on hand and the safety data sheet reference. Brightwater Pharmaceuticals is the principal dangerous goods customer, with isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide solutions and lithium battery powered devices. Merriwa Foods holds sanitiser concentrate in class 8.

5.Inspections

The weekly inspection checks bunding, spill kits, extinguishers, signage, placarding at the store entry, segregation distances, package condition and quantity against the register. Findings are recorded in the incident register as hazards when action is required.

6.Emergency information

A manifest of dangerous goods on site, a site plan and the safety data sheets are kept in the emergency information box at the main gate for emergency services. The manifest is updated whenever the register changes.
